Frequently Asked Questions

I thoroughly recommend purchasing a good quality piano, which will enable you to practice the different things we go over in the lessons. Apart from that, just a good dose of enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

I teach pupils of all ages, you're certainly never to old to learn as long as you put the effort in.

I teach many of my piano students from my teaching space located in High Petergate, YO1 7EN, in central York. You can view the mao below on the page for my rough location. It is a great place to learn to play the piano, with plenty of resources and a good piano to learn upon.

I also offer lessons from my home on Manor Drive North, York, YO26 5RY, as well as mobile piano tuition subject to my teaching availability and schedule. For more information simply get in touch and we can arrange lessons to take place in the most suitable location.

Yes! There is a bus stop around the corner. Where I teach is fairly central, so plenty of different buses go past.

Yes, I teach children from the age of 8 upwards. I really believe that learning an instrument from a young age is extremely beneficial! I try and make sure these lessons are not only about improving their playing but also providing an experience that encourages the child that learning the instrument is worthwhile. There are unavoidable parts of learning an instrument which are not so enjoyable, but if, in lessons, kids can see the benefits and fun of music, hopefully, they will continue to persevere with it and not be one of the many people who say later in life, "I wish I kept playing the [insert instrument here]."

You can, but you don't have to! Grades can be a great way to progress students and give them the motivation to improve, however they're not for everyone. Lessons are tailored to the pupils aims meaning you get what you want to achieve out of the lessons.

Please note that Piano Lessons York operates a strict 24-hour cancellation policy. This means that if a lesson is cancelled within 24 hours of the arranged time the student will be charged the full price of the lesson. Should you need to cancel a lesson please contact me at your earliest opportunity to re-arrange.
